Having booked a winter weekend at the restored Palace in Central Manchester,I was greatly impressed by it's imposing, modern foyer and the huge clean, stylish room I was offered on the 3rd floor. Having booked a single room, and reading some less-than-complimentary reviews of the hotel, I was expecting the worst but got only the best! The reception staff were always bright and helpful and the service excellent, but I imagine I had been upgraded automatically to a double room,so can't really vouch for the small, cheaper rooms(which may be on the lower ground floors). Despite the fittings and carpets in the landings and corridors being a hideous clashing cacaphony of patterns and styles, the total effect nevertherless adds up to a ride through fairyland whenever you leave your room. As the hotel has retained many of its original rococo and high Victorian features, but spruced them up,I found the whole experience delightful! And as breakfast was included,I could hardly complain at that either..
